My dogs nail is broken?

My dog broke his nail in half and it's split down pretty far. He hasn't acted like he's in pain I just noticed it because I was doing yoga and he was laying next to me. Should I take him to the vet or will he be okay as long as he isn't in pain? I know that cats claws are really sensitive but IDK if dogs are the same?

I think he will be okay, just keep an eye on him. If he shows any signs of pain then take him to the vet.

He looks like he needs a nail trimming- just a quick not to short trim once or twice a month with keep them from splitting. My shihtzus nails get that way when I miss a trim on them.

If he’s not in pain it’ll heal. Just keep it clean an watch for infections . My dog broke her nail all the way down where it wouldn’t stop bleeding forever ! Of course the vet wanted me to bring her in so they could cut the whole thing off .. but why when I can take care of it myself an she isn’t in pain ? It healed nicely by itself just keeping it clean an triple antibiotic

if it bothers him he'll bite it off himself possibly my pug always used to bite his nails when they were broken but he sadly passed away here's a pic of him though
