Are the names Ellie and Lily too similar?

We like the name Ellie and we have a 2 1/2 year old daughter names Lily. Do you thing the names are too similar?

They are definitely similar. But I just wanted to comment because those are the 2 names my husband and I are stuck between for our first daughter! :)

I don't think they're too similar in terms of other people's judgements or the girls' experience growing up... but I do think they're too similar in terms of how weirdly easy it is to reach for the wrong name when talking to your kids. I get even dissimilar names mixed up occasionally, and similar names are way harder. So for your own sake I'd choose names that are a little more distinct, so you aren't constantly getting them mixed up.

We have a 2.5 year old son named Kai and we are naming this boy Kieran. They’re not as close as your names but we’re going with it and I say if that’s the name you like then go for it too!
