Talking them out is best. But I tend to talk too fast when I get nervous, muddle my words together, or skip something I wanted to say. 
So, if it’s important and I feel like I might mess it up, I write it down. It’s easier to stay calm when someone’s reading how you’re feeling instead of analyzing their reactions to what you are saying and getting all worked up. In my case.

I used (and still do) write letters to my mom about things I'm uncomfortable my talking about. But my mom is good about talking to me about things we need to talk about.
