Are we censoring too much?

Question

Very early this morning I was driving back from dropping my friend off after a night out. My phone had died so I turned on the radio for music. First it played Post Malone- Rockstar. A lot of it was bleeped out, which surprised me (I haven't listened to the radio for a really really long time). Words like "popping pillies" "Uzi", etc. Next was Eminem-Without Me. Normal words like "shit" were bleeding out, but as the song progressed I noticed more words like "ass" "hell" "I'm on the rag and ovulating" were bleeped out. I noticed even Spotify and and Pandora playing more censored songs for me. Personally I remember in like 2007 when you could say everything besides "fuck" "shit" "God" and occasionally "hell".

Is censoring a good thing?
Should we cenor more and if so, what?

Yes, using songs as the example. If it’s past 8pm they should be able to play the uncensored versions or just the ones without a swear word. Some of them there is no point in listening to cause all there is is bleeps. 
I feel the major concern here is children, but in my opinion I’ll have playlists set up that I feel are appropriate. Eminem probably won’t make the list but he’ll turn up when they’re out the car!

Yes, they’re censoring too much. If parents don’t want their children listening to that type of stuff, they can simply skip to a family friendly station. This goes for adults who don’t want to hear the bad language and those who don’t want their children listening to it either 🙄

I haven’t noticed this with Pandora. It may be that you unintentionally liked a censored version of a couple of songs and created a weird loop. I once had it tell me that I enjoyed misogynistic lyrics based on my like history. 🤦🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️
More to the question though, I’m not a huge fan of censoring. If people don’t like to hear those things they can self censor by changing the channel.

Second thought, I listened to an interesting piece about how in other counties "hate speech" is censored but casual profanity is not. The person said that hate speech is dangerous, can be harmful especially to young ears while profanity alone (not hateful) is just a word. He was dumbfounded why a country of free speech doesnt bleep horrible things but does profanity. He was able to say something from a nazi/white supremacist that was quite nasty but not the eff word (this was daytime radio). Putting them together it was quite odd to hear.

Well if I like a song and I hear it I always make sure it’s the clean version so my son doesn’t pick up any of the words he isn’t supposed to say

i think we censor too much in America. it's like they're trying to censor us from life before we turn 18 but after that, it's fair game. this creates a culture of natural, human things (like sex, breastfeeding, etc) is taboo and shameful. I also think that if they're going to censor half the song, just don't play it.

Makes sense to sensor cuss words on the radio. Spotify includes explicit track of most songs, but not sure about other platforms.

Pretty sure song censoring on Radio has been around since I was little and more than likely before then too. 
Yeah, I agree with it. Because it’s expected that there will be young listeners tuning into those radio stations. 
Personally I just make sure my phone has enough charge before going out 🤷‍♀️

I think so, "herb" is sometimes bleeped out from the song 7 Years 🤦‍♀️  I mean it's not a bad word, censoring it does nothing except maybe make you wonder what they are smoking (because smoking isnt bleeped.) I just think it's a little ridiculous
