Is sharing your location with your S.O. Crazy?

So, I’ve never been one to do this, but I am heading back to university in August and my boyfriend will be home. I’ve never been in a long distance relationship, and sometimes he doesn’t text me for hours on end. I would feel more at ease sharing our location, that why I wouldn’t have to feel like I would have to be updated on what he’s doing all the time and also so he knows where I am at and that I am safe. But the biggest problem is I think that’s he would think I’m a crazy girlfriend and that I don’t trust him. I don’t know how to bring it up.. would it be out of hand to ask of this?
