Associates in nursing?

Can anyone tell me what that means? Do you become an rn with that? Or an Lpn?

So there is  licensed practical nurse which is a certificate school or trade school. You complete the practical nursing program and then you take the state test required to obtain licensure in that state to get your LPN.There is also an Associates in nursing which is an associates degree but you can test for your RN through a state test after obtaining. It's usually a 2 year program. Then there's BSN which is a bachelors of science in nursing. You can test for the RN after completing that program too. It usually takes longer than the associates but either way you take the same test to become an RN whether you get your associates or bachelors. Some facilities require you to have a bachelors and some do not. Some pay a little more if you have your BSN. It all depends on where you work. I did the LPN to RN associates route and I don't regret it. I got a lot of skills from being an LPN. But for me to go on and do anything else I need to complete my bachelors. I just hate school.

Having an Associates in Nursing degree allows you to sit the NCLEX, which is the state nursing board exam. Once you pass that exam you receive a Registered Nurse license to practice nursing. Many people will get an associate degree to begin with since it only takes about 2years or under to complete. That way they can get into the field of nursing and pursue a Bachelors degree at a later time if they choose to do so.

Yes, with an associates degree you’re an RN. Many hospitals are requiring RN’s with their associates to sign contracts stating they will get their bachelor’s degree within X number of years.
