What’s in Your Newborn’s Diaper Bag?

Ftm, baby due in August and I’m starting to brainstorm what items I’ll need to pack in her diaper bag (you know, besides diapers and wipes!) Can you help me out? What do you pack in your newborn’s diaper bag? Are there items you initially thought you’d need but ended up not using? What about items you didn’t think of until some trial-and-error outings? Thanks!

Everyone has great suggestions similar to my bag. I just want to add that the outside pocket of my diaper backpack is for myself. I have a couple pads, chapstick and sunscreen in there at all times.

Extra change of clothes (2), diaper changing pad, ziplock for pooped on clothes, doggy poo bags for dirty diapers (in case you’re not near a trash can), disposable changing pad (for those real nasty blow outs, where you don’t want to get your regular changing pad a mess), a little muslin blanket in case it’s cold, sunhat (for summer babies), a little rattle or toy for distraction purposes (useful for if they start crying in the grocery check out line or something), diaper rash cream if needed, nipple cream if needed, nursing cover if needed, burp cloth for spit up

I always pack extra clothes, receiving blanket, diapers and wipes, bottle with breast milk. If your doing formula then you want that as well with a bottle of water. I always put a nuk but my kiddos don’t use them for me but other people can get them to use it. Then a blanket.

Extra full outfit. Portable changing pad. Sun hat. A toy or two. Either a wet bag, baggies, or plastic bag for a blowout and to dispose of diapers politely (I had no idea you were supposed to wrap a diaper in plastic when you dispose them in public 🤷🏻‍♀️). Baby wearing wrap. Bandana or bib for drool. Burp cloth. Snacks for mom and water bottle for mom. That’s all I pack aside from diapers and wipes.

Diapers, wipes, chux, a blanket, an extra outfit, burp rag, portable diaper changing thing, pacifiers, butt cream.  When mt husband is alone with her, he brings a bottle bag too. My kiddo isn't a newborn any more though. She's three months.

I always had nappies (diapers, if you’re American), wipes, a changing mat, disposable nappy bags, nappy rash cream, a small bottle of baby powder, hand sanitiser (for when you change a nappy but don’t have access to soap and a tap), a change of clothes, spare dummies (pacifiers, if you’re American), a couple of Toys, a wrap, a blanket, a hat or beanie (depending on the weather), teething gel, a water bottle, mittens, baby sunscreen and these sanitiser balls that I had that were designed to sanitise dummies (pacifiers), they have a sponge inside and you put water in it and dissolve a little sanitiser tablet in it that kills germs, pop the dummy (pacifier) in, wait 15 minutes and it’s clean and ready to go! That’s all I can think of at the moment!
