Is being in bikini the same an being in underwear?

I bought a see through dress that’s for the beach because I couldn’t find bikinis so I wore it with my underwear instead and my mom’s bitching telling me to put on shorts because it’s not the same & I think it is tbh

They're similar but I wouldn't say the same. I would just say they're similar in the sense that they cover the same amount but underwear is underwear and it's kind of clear if it is. Also... if you're going to like the beach or whatever why didn't you invest in a bathing suit instead of a cover up?

Why are you wearing a swim cover up if you don’t have a swimsuit? A swim coverup is for when you’re going to and from the beach or pool. If you don’t have a swimsuit, you wouldn’t be doing that. I don’t get it

Bathing suits are worn with the intention of being seen by the public. Underwear is more intimate in the sense that it’s for you and maybe a SO, not for everyone to see. I think it’s just the principle more than the actual coverage.

Personally, no I don't see bras and panties as the same thing. I wear bikinis, but they're thicker than a pair of panties and just don't look quite the same. I've never seem them as the same thing. But I know people that see it differently.
