Job reference

So my friend (whom I met through work), has put me down as a referee on her resume as I was her superior when we worked together, years ago, but I don’t know what I’m supposed to say when I get the call? Do they ask me questions? Do I just tell them how good she was at her job? I’ve never done this before.
