How long does it take to become catholic?

Question

My husband is catholic, and I have a daughter on the way. Due to this, I’m wanting to join the Catholic Church so my husband and I are united in that. However, I’m being told I have to take classes for 2 YEARS before I can officially be a catholic? Is this the same all around or is this something that is different depending on the diocese?
I know that we are having to do extra stuff in order to get our baby baptized that my husband has never had to do anywhere else so we are wondering if our diocese is just more class oriented or not? 
I grew up southern/independent baptist so this is all very new to me. Thank you so much for your help! :)

I was raised Catholic but later left the Catholic church snd became a nondenominational bible believing Christian.  The Catholic church has to many rules that are not biblical.  Christianity is about faith, and a relationship with Jesus.  I know my response didnt help you but you dont have to be a Catholic to be united in faith.

RCIA shouldn't take 2 years, it's typically a standard 1 year program; however, your parish priest CAN choose a longer program. I'm also wondering if your parish is combining it with the marriage program, if you guys weren't married in The Catholic Church? Maybe sit down and discuss this with the monsignor? My sister in law converted, and due to her work schedule, the priest worked out a 6 month program.

Hopefully it takes a lifetime, but indoctrination is a powerful weapon so who knows how long it takes, hopefully more than a lifetime

It is definitely not two years. 
You’d have to convert via what’s called RCIA, which is about nine months on average. 
If you want to get married in the church and your archdiocese is very traditional, they may make you guys do premarital spiritual counseling...which varies from parish to parish.

Generally classes begin in the summer/early fall and go through until Easter.

Two years? No. Maybe one year, only because you need to do RCIA for like 6 months and then get all your sacraments, one of which needs to be done by a bishop or on Easter by a priest.

I'm Catholic and I've never heard of it taking 2 years? Confirmation classes are only a few months  (at most 6 I think) long, so I'm not sure what the other 1.5 years could be?
