Sorry, I don't like either.  Especially the random "q".  What about Maleik?

To be honest, both spelling changes the vowel at the end from short to long in the original Arabic. The original meaning of Malik is king. Changing the vowel would give the word no meaning.

I don't want to offend you. I just want to let you know what happens with the alternative spellings.

I'd just leave it the way it's spelled. It'll be hard to pronounce when he's in school because me reading it I didn't know it was Malik.
