What does it mean if my cervix is soft?

Question

Had an appointment today: 39+6 weeks. 
Midwife attempted to do a membrane sweep but unfortunately I’m not dilated at all (less than 1cm). 
She said my cervix is high but very soft- what does this mean? 
I’m absolutely gutted I couldn’t get a sweep as desperate to go into labour but feel like it won’t happen without induction😔

your cervix starts to soften and thin before you dilate,  don't be discouraged

I’m in the same boat as you are! Cervix closed , baby up high, soft. Being induced two weeks after that.. which is the upcoming Sunday night
