Did epidural delay your pushing?

My first baby I had an epidural.. after 70 hours of labor I was D O N E! I had an epidural for the last 2 hours of labor and it took me a full hour to push him out... I’m due in 6 weeks and I want to try to avoid epidural and I think I can do it but I’m terrified I’ll be pushing for an hour again... what was your previous experiences? Anyone do an epidural one time and not the other and notice any differences? Thanks!

With my first I had epidural and I had to push for two hours. With my second my entire labor was very fast and I only pushed twice with no medication at all. But I know my body and my body doesn’t respond to medication well. I think for some people they can have the epidural and still be good! But for me it stopped everything and then I need different medication to get going again. I’m not a hippy or anything but I truly feel for MY body, less is more. I would rather have more pain but be able to do what I need to do than less pain and my body fighting to figure it out. But I wouldn’t make a decision either way until the time comes. You’ll know at that moment what’s right. Trust your body and listen to how your feeling. Okay, now I sound like a hippy. Lol

I had an epidural with both of my girls and with my oldest they shut it off and I felt everything and pushed for 3 hours.. it was horrible and I had flashbacks and nightmares about it. With my second I had the epidural and it was shut off and I started to push right away and within 15 min she was born, I felt no pain and was perfectly fine. It was a breeze!!!! I def don’t think it stalled or progressed anything for me.

I did an epidural with both of my kids. currently pregnant with my third. 
With my first, the epidural did not work fully. My legs were jello. After 2 hours of pushing , she was stuck and then forceps were used and I was cut all the way to the bum. After they turned her head and cut, it took 2 pushes but I felt it all. 
With my second, I got the epidural and pushed for literally 10 minutes. I could still walk with the edpidural and honestly labour felt like a breeze with it. 
I think it just depends who does the epidural. I will be getting it again and hopefully it's like my second lol.

For first timers 2 hours is pretty average for pushing. I took a hour 45 I think.. I had the epidural for a couple hours while waiting to go from 8 to 10 cm but they turned it off for pushing.

first baby I went into spontaneous labor and laboured at home most of the day. I was 16 at the time and my mom was basically a chicken with her head cut off. Honestly, she was useless 🤷🏾‍♀️ once I was admitted to l&d;, I seemed to progress well but the nurses felt that my contractions were so strong and it was going on the 12th hour so I was given an epidural. I felt nothing but pressure from the contractions and when it was time to push, I pushed twice and he was out in 5 mins. Second baby was a bit different. Shorter labor time but much more painful even with the epidural. I was induced with the 2nd by way of pitocin and shit didn't start getting real until the 2nd shift nurses came in and was like yea, your dosage is too low hun we have to up this. I was like ok but when I say I wasn't ready for the insanity those pitocin induced contractions would cause.........I was basically crawling out of my skin. I couldn't talk but I managed to explain I need something to help me manage these damn contractions. they gave me an epidural but the nurses explained it was positional so whichever side I laid on the meds would shift to that side. dumbest thing I ever heard but ok. I felt everything and was so damn tired I didn't even raise a fuss about the pain. in the end l&d; was 17hrs from induction to baby and I was able to walk to the restroom after birth. So to FINALLY answer your question (sorry I went off on a tangent) I dont think the epidurals delayed my labor. this go round, I dont want any meds or to be induced  because that was wack. I'd love for my little lady to come when it's time and I just labor at home as long as I can

I think everyone responds to it differently. For some, it will relax you and then labor will progress but for me, it slowed my labor way down. 24 hours total start to finish but I pushed him out in 5 min only because he had to be vacuum delivered with the doctor pulling him out with all her might due to cord complications and his heart rate. It was a scary intense 5 min!! This time, I’m delivering med free at a birthing center and IF there are complications again, I’ll be transferred but I’m trusting God and my body and looking forward to a shorter labor and being able to move about freely. I’m hoping I won’t have to push for a long time and that I can handle the pain.

I had the epidural with my first baby. My second I wanted one, but after 48 hours of labor, we got to the hospital and he came within 30 minutes. I didn’t have any meds with him. I felt like I was able to recover quicker and felt back to normal quick without the epidural. I think with this one I’m gonna try to go natural again if I want meds, anything but an epidural is my goal.
