When to tell employers

Question

I've started a new job and I haven't told my new employers yet as I want to wait until the 20 week scan. Plus I figured if I said anything during my interview they would over look me. I'm assuming now I've signed a contract they couldn't just get rid of me (even though they shouldnt) bit anxious about what is going to happen anyone else experience this? Thanks

I told my new employer at 8 weeks due to morning sickness that made me postpone my start date. My employer was extremely accommodating and everyone has congratulated me. I would bring it up in a medical capacity, like "hey I have a doctor apt next week as I'm pregnant..." In my experience, everyone can relate to medical issues and it will hopefully make them more cognizant of any accomodations you may need, such as more bathroom breaks, a foot rest, stretch breaks, etc.

Ahhhhh I'm so glad you posted this. I just started my new job today and I'm exactly 17 weeks. I'm full time and also didn't disclose in my interview. I'm hoping to not tell for at least a few more weeks but I'm definitely starting to show- have to wear baggy clothes. I don't know how to navigate this either so I'm thankful you guys get it.

I am in the same boat. 16 weeks 3 days and just started last week. I have not disclosed my pregnancy and am going to try to wait a few more weeks if I can. This is my first child so I am not showing (to others at least) but I am still extremely nervous about my employer's reaction when I disclose. Unfortunately I am also subject to a six month probationary period so I will not be covered under FMLA (I miss the cut off by about a week)! Sorry I don't have any advice but you aren't alone!

I interviewed for my current job at 9 weeks, and started when I was 12 weeks. I told my supervisor when I was at 14 weeks, because I needed to schedule time off for my anatomy scan. She was ecstatic! What a relief! When I told her, I had explained that it was our first child, a high risk pregnancy, and that I didn't say anything at the interview because at that point we hadn't had an ultrasound or heard the heartbeat (you don't have to have an explanation, but I wanted to provide one). I didn't want to bring it up so early when the chances of miscarriage were still up there. Good luck!

I started my job right around the time I conceived.. My boss asked before I even knew I was, so when I found out I was I told her right away. Also with my previous pregnancy I miscarried and had to miss a week of work so I didn't want that to happen without my boss being aware of the possibility

The only thing I would be worried about is FMLA, which protects you from termination while on maternity leave. Depending on the company and the state. I live in TN and in order to take leave for my maternity leave I have to file FMLA paperwork in order to keep my job while I'm out. And in order to be eligible for FMLA you have to have worked there for 1 full year or a certain number of hours before you qualify for it. Thankfully I'll hit my year mark in october.

I have been at my work place for 3 + yrs and I told my supervisor before I told my parents because I had been descussing transferring to a new classroom so it was more or else to discuss if that was still an option and whether it would be positive or negative

I interviewed for my current job the same week I conceived. Accepted the job the same week I found out about the pregnancy. I waited until 12 weeks to tell my employer, but I made sure to tell them before I moved across the country for that job. I kept telling myself if they didn't respond positively that I really didn't want to work for them anyway. They responded very positively, and I'm glad I told them early because they still need to hire someone else at my level to help when I take leave. I was so nervous to tell them, but it went so incredibly well. And you're right, once you have an offer they can't rescind just because you tell them you're pregnant.
