Should i ignore his texts?

So a lot of dating coaches and things will say that if you’re seeming too available and willing to hangout any time a guy asks you to, he will know you’ll be there waiting for him and yadda yadda. They then usually say something like “dont text him back” or “start ignoring his calls.” I want to try doing this but i every time he texts me i feel bad for not responding. I dont respond right away and i dont come off as some desperate or needy girl but how do i not text back if i genuinely want to hang out? Do i ignore his text altogether and wait for him to reply? Idk what should i do? Is any of this even worth it? What do you guys think? Looking for some actual advice not short, smart-ass comments.
