How long is too long: What would it take for you to end your LDR?

Question

Let's say you know you aren't closing the distance any time soon. How many visits per year would make you end your relationship from it not being enough time spent with your partner? Hope this question makes sense. Please leave a comment if you have ever ended a LDR from not enough visiting time, or how long you have been in your LDR with your answer

For me the amount wouldn’t matter, but I would need an end goal. If there is no end to long distance in sight, I couldn’t do it. I’ve been in a LDR for 3 years, but we always had a date set for moving in together, so the amount of visits didn’t matter as much.

I think it would depend on why we aren’t visiting as much as we want. If there’s a valid reason (Work, money, etc) then I can be understanding that I don’t see him as often as I want. If we aren’t visiting for something petty, then I’ll be less understanding and we’ll need to have a talk so we can come to an agreement or break up. But ultimately I love him so I will take what I can get. I would also need to have an end date in mind that we agree on. I don’t want to do long distance forever and knowing when we can be together for good helps me deal with the less frequent visits.

I've been in a relationship for 2.5 years now and over half of it has been long distance.
Honestly, it's all based on how committed you are. There's time where I don't see my boyfriend for a few months at a time. I go to college out of state and he's a firefighter in my hometown.
It's hard, but you have to weigh the pros and cons. He's the loml, so we work so hard on our relationship and do the cheesiest shit to keep it amazing. I go home for breaks and he usually comes down to visit once or twice a semester.
You gotta do what you feel is best for your relationship and yourself. LDRs are not for everyone and that is perfectly fine.

I agree with the person who said it’s more important that you have an end-date for your distance. I cut off a 5yr LDR even though we visited each other semi-regularly (3-4 times per year) because we still had no end date set. It was always “once I graduated from college” but then I did, and then it was 6 months later with still NO progress made toward him moving out here. It wasn’t like he had a career or school or anything keeping him where he was, either. Literally all he would have had to have done would be get a new drivers license..... but yeah anyway it’s all about that end date.

It would really depend on the situation honestly, because think about the women who’s husbands are stationed somewhere for the military, they won’t just break up from lack of seeing them, it would depend on how much you love them and whether you can make it work

You can’t do an LDR forever, there should be some sort of plan so you guys can be together for real in the foreseeable future. 
But as for visits, it depends. The only way a LDR will work is if both people put in the effort to make it work and show their partner they care and prioritize the relationship. That being said, sometimes things like work, money, etc get in the way. 
There’s no magic number of visits/year to make a relationship work. It’s about giving what you can when you can and taking care of your partner to the best of your ability.

Honestly it is nice to have the privilege to see esch other that often! And I partly agree with the end date but it doesn’t have to be the only thing keeping a couple going.
For me and my bf we are dating for almost a year now. I live in Switzerland and he lived in the US. We both are just starting college this summer so we will be long distance for at least the next three years!
When it comes down to visiting it sucks so badly because our breaks hardly ever overlap long enough that the money is worth it to spend on a plane ticket... so if we are unlucky we are going to see each other twice a year (summer and Christmas) and if we are lucky we‘ll see each other four times a year (fall and spring as well)
So what I am saying is that if the two of you are really committed and you fo want to make it work there will be a solution to it. I know it may sound cheesy because both of us are still pretty young and inexperienced but we just are about to see each other again after half a year! 
(I‘m freaking out btw) 
So I guess what I am saying is that if both are willing to do it a couple cab make it through long distance without an ebd date and with only a couple visits per year.
