Finally arrived!!
I guess second babies don’t like to have long birth stories. 😏
Anyway, besides general tightening, I had nothing to speak of as far as contractions. Just a few well placed sharp pains and all tightening (full abdominal hugs). So no, I figured I would hit my 41week mark with nothing to show. However on 6/5/18, I woke up with bloody show around 12:30am. Still no contractions so I went back to bed. Got up and went to work, still nothing. When I stood up to go to lunch, I got hit with the most intense contraction possible. Odd...nothing else. Came back from lunch and had two more. My mom insisted I come home and get ready to possibly have the baby. I laughed. But decided to consider tracking the contractions just to see. By 2 pm, I was having contractions approximately 3-4 minutes apart and 40 sec long. Not too bad. By 3pm (15 mins before my shift ended), I was too uncomfortable to finish work so I clocked out and headed to my car. Suddenly the contractions got super intense and started coming back to back. I managed the 40 min drive to my parents where I hoped in their bathtub. Now my contractions were 2 mins apart and 60sec long. We called my midwife who yelled that I needed to be on my way. So 4:30pm, we were heading to the birthing center (1hr way due to traffic). 15 mins from the center, the urge to push hit and I began to fight it. For the record, Transition in a moving vehicle is NOT for the faint of heart.
We got to the center at 5:15pm. I managed to walk in, climb on a bed, and immediately they checked me. My water popped while they tried to assess my progression. As a result they still had no idea how dilated I was because I had severe back pain and they wanted me comfortable. I hopped up and suddenly began pushing. Two strong contractions/pushes and baby girl entered the world at 5:24pm. Not even 10 mins after pulling up to the birthing center.
No tearing, no pain meds and no long labor. This little Wonder Woman flew into our arms at a speed we were unprepared for but we wouldn’t have changed a thing.
My advise to any second time moms...don’t wait. Second babies truly do enter the world faster than the first. 🤷🏽♀️
