My SO is dying
 It's very hard for me to accept it. Although I know that he would be at peace and no longer suffering, I selfishly will do everything I can to keep him going

Although I have my beliefs when it comes to what happens to us when we die, thinking of my own death scares me as well. It scares me because I'm not ready to die but then I don't think a lot of people are.

I'm in the process if reading  What Dreams May Come. When that was written..hundreds of people reported that they no longer felt fear about dying after they read it.

When I was 19 I had to make this very decision for my father. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do, but it was the right choice. He was suffering and stopping treatment also stopped his pain. I do truly understand a family's desire to extend a loved ones life. For me though, what I felt I needed to do was to ask myself, what I would want someone to do for me. When I knew that I knew what the right answer was.

I accept that some things can not be changed. My grandmother is currently dying. She has lung cancer, tumors in her spine, and all these bad things. She will be dead in a couple months. Maybe she'll last the year. But she signed her do not resuscitate paper and she is currently at home in peace with family visiting every week. I will cry one day because I will have lost her. But until then, I will enjoy every last living memory of her being happy at home and not depressed and aggravated at the hospital.
