Is it a bad idea to buy a used baby mattress?

So we bought a baby crib on marketplace and it came with a plastic baby crib. Should we buy a new one or would it be okay to just clean it up? It seems in pretty good condition but I’m not to sure about it. My fiancé thinks it’s fine.

I would buy a new one. babies need a firm surface to sleep on. you dont know how long it was used or what kind of allergens it was exposed too. baby mattress arent expensive so I would say get a new one for safety reasons.

Car seats and crib mattresses should be brand new in my opinion.

I wouldn’t recommend it. Besides sanitary concerns, babies need a firm sleep surface and mattresses wear overtime. You also never know what what the mattress has been exposed to, cigarette smoke for example, third hand smoke is major SIDS risk.

I'd check these factors:
1. What's the condition it's in? If it's like new. Id say yes
2. Is it fabric or plastic (aka does it absorb?) If it doesn't absorb, I'd say yes. 
3. Clean/disinfect the heck out of it. 
4. Buy a cover to put over it just to be extra safe. 
I work in a children's consignment shop & we sell them all the time. No complaints yet. My boss has been in business for 15 years.
