When do I need a breast pump?

Question

When do I realistically need a breast pump? Insurance no longer covers the one I want because they slashed their coverage unfortunately. I'll be home with my baby for 6 months and then I'll go back to work, so I'll likely need to start pumping then.
Will I need the pump within those 6 months while I'm home with the baby?

I would invest in a pump just because even if you pumped one time a day for six months, you will already have a good about of milk stored up for your baby! I’m a SAHM and I go to school again in August and I try to pump once a day so I can not be so stressed out about it when it gets closer to school!
Also where I’m from DHS will rent you out a temp pump for free for about 4 weeks and if you respond well to the pump they give you one to keep. And they use medela brand pumps so it’s great! Maybe they have something similar in your area!

I would at least buy a manual pump right away (they’re like $30). I was sooo engorged right away and had to pump to take the pressure off.

Yea definitely get a hand pump! It will help with engorgement, help you store some milk for daddy to feed or build a stash little by little!

Having a pump is also nice so you can get a nap while dad can feed a bottle and bond with baby.

I found the pump to be helpful when I had a clogged duct and when I had doctors appointments where I would be away while my little one needed to nurse
