Virtual baby shower vs Meet the baby party

Sara

My husband is in the military, so we are stationed far from all of our family/friends and most likely will be until he retires. The logistics of flying back home for a baby shower and then shipping all the presents seems like a nightmare. So we are trying to figure out an alternative for when our first little one is on their way. One of my mom's concerns is that since this will be our first (and her first grandbaby), that we won't have all the baby gear we need when baby comes home. Another concern is me traveling, most likely alone, while pregnant.

1. My mom and mil host a simple shower, but have everyone ship the presents to me. I can open the presents and play games via skype.

2. Wait until I have the baby, then fly back home and have a co-ed brunch for the family and friends to meet the baby.

3. Do both, but make sure people dont feel obligated to give the baby presents for both occassions. Im afraid doing both will seem selfish, but given our situation people would understand.
