Sleeping in the car in the garage?

Question

We are about to transition our daughter from an infant car seat to a convertible one (as she is getting too big - she just turned one).  Normally if she falls asleep in the car, I just take her infant car seat out and bring it inside, and she stays asleep. Now with the new car seat, I am wondering how I will manage this, as she struggles to fall asleep and wakes easily with transitions. She doesn’t have a solid nap schedule so it can be hard to plan the day around her naps. 
Now for my question: we have an attached garage and I am wondering if there is any reason why it wouldn’t be safe to let her stay asleep in the car in the garage if she happens to fall asleep in the car on the way home. 
A couple of notes: the garage door would be shut and the side door locked so no one would be able to get in. We live in the north and the garage is very cool so temperature wouldn’t be a factor. I’d leave the door between the garage and the house open so I would be able to hear her (I’d also leave the car door open, with the car off obviously).  
Please be kind in your comments. I am here asking for thoughts because I want to make sure there isn’t some safety factor I have overlooked.

You should never do that. There was a recent story of a little girl whom fell asleep in a car seat and stopped breathing. You'll just have to get her used to transitions.

It's not safe to let them sleep in a carseat. Especially unsupervised. It would be best if you just worked on getting her on a solid sleep schedule and got her to sleep in her crib.

I think your biggest problem is the no schedule thing. My baby was terrible with waking up from the car seat or wherever until I got her on a consistent schedule! She now sleeps soundly transitioning from car to me to bed. Her naps use to be 9-11 and 3-4 and when she turned 1 it went to 12-2pm. Schedules are important to babies and toddlers! It’s sooooo important for their growth. It take a week tops to get her on a schedule it’s that easy!

Please don’t do that hun, it’s totally unsafe for a number of reasons. Babies can pass from positional asphyxia, it’s common with leaving babies to sleep in car seats, that’s why everyone advises not to leave them to sleep in there. I’m not sure where your rooms are based but there could be a fire separating you from you baby. In my option hun there are too many unthinkable situations that could happen. Try to get that little on a sleeping schedule. It’s hell setting a routine, believe me for the first week, but after that it will be the best thing you have done for both of you!! Good luck!!!! You can do this!

curious - there are a lot of responses about not letting a baby sleep in the car seat but what about when you take long distance driving trips? is there a reason that it's okay for babies to sleep in the car while it's moving but not when the car stops?

I keep my son occupied or distracted with something in the car if i don't want him to fall asleep. When he falls asleep in the car i can never get him transfered inside without him waking up and then his nap is ruined.

Look up baby schedules, it will tell you how long she should be up at for her age. I found that to really help when I put my baby on a nap schedule, and let me tell you, it makes EVERYTHING easier when you do that and know they're getting proper sleep! With the car seat thing, I personally wouldn't do it but have heard of people that have. If you do decide to do that, I would check on her frequently
