10 month old not interested when I teach him

is it normal for a 10 month old not to be interested when I teach him stuff. I've done naming animals in books, closing and opening of hands, hi, bye, high five. he's not paying attention when I do the stuff. all he is interested in is putting things in his mouth. is it too early to be worried? he was born 1 month early too. 10 months is his actual age.
