Does your last name matter?

Do you believe people with certain last names get treated differently?
Here’s the scenario that brought up this “debate” 
A “nobody” teacher moved into our area several years ago and had a relationship with a student (student was 17, she was 30). Teacher didn’t know the student(met her in the summer) and met her at a collage party drinking. The student happened to be a rich, county commissioners daughter. Everything was fine and dandy until student and teacher had a argument about who knows what and then the student decided she wanted to press charges against her. Conveniently, right after student turns 18, right after student graduates(a week after to be exact), right after an argument, and right after she started dating the sheriffs son 🤔
Why she decided that 2 years after the party she wanted to do all this around all these times.. well 🤔
Now this teacher is having the book thrown at her.. yes, her relationship was illegal. Yes, it was not okay. But in her defense didn’t know the age of the student when this happened and from my knowledge had cut off communication until their argument during the election. The teacher quit her job 2 years ago and has made herself a  respected medic. She’s now had her life ruined over a petty rich girl not getting her way 🤔
Another teacher, at the SAME school has a well respected name, everyone knows this last name, her family owns many businesses, very wealthy, etc. has been having sex with her students for over 15 years. She’s been reported MANY times and they give her a short leave of absence... SOMETIMES other times they just ignore it. 
They’ve now moved her to middle school students.. how that logic works is beyond me. “Teacher has sex with her students so let’s move her to the younger kids”. The police know about her doing this, the school knows, parents know.. everyone. She was even in trouble the last month of school for dressing too slutty but just got told to dress nicer 😳
Neither of these situations are okay, but it’s funny how what your last name can do around our are.

of course last names matter, children of well respected or high ranking officials get off on charges all the time due to who mummy and daddy are.. 
not forgetting affluenza, that's also something people with well known names use when it comes to crimes and they get off on that fact too. it's sickening

Ya it matters. My husband has a known name and it’s worked good and bad for me. I’ve also had racist comments and been treated differently until people see me show up. My husband is Chinese, I am white. But I constantly get “oh I wasn’t expecting a white girl”

I’m actually in favor of getting rid of bail entirely for this reasons. Wealthy, affluent, and well-liked people have a much easier time with the justice system overall.

It’s just “the good ol’ boys club,” meaning its about your connections.  Im sure it’s the same in more populated areas, but I feel like small towns are the worst for this type of thing.

Oh yes. I know plenty of people who have never gotten a speeding ticket because of who they can name drop.

Connections matter. Not the name itself. I was subbing one day and a student had a problem with the student teacher. She was supposed to get extra time due to her 504. However, that extra time isn’t always in class time. It can be offered at anytime. Which myself, and the student teacher did. She was then refusing and texted her dad, who was an administrator, and almost ruined this student teachers career that she didn’t even have. It was pretty crazy. The student was abusing the situation. Myself and the student teacher knew our laws for a 504 plan. Her last name didn’t matter, her connection with her dad being an administrator did it. She was an entitled brat. She used that power to her advantage.
