Can you weigh a newborn on a home scale with you to get an idea of their weight?

I have been breastfeeding my little one, so I’ve been worried that he’s getting enough of what he needs. From the scale it says he weighs about 8 pounds 4 ounces. That’s the added weight after weighing myself first. Would this be pretty accurate?

I mean I use to do that with my dog.... I know animals and babies aren’t the same but i don’t see why not. We do thzt with elders in wheelchairs. Way them in the wheelchair and then later subtract the wheelchair weight
