PGS testing of embryos??

Question

I am starting IVF and they are suggesting testing of the embryos to help determine viability. I am on the fence.  I know being 42 it is safer, but if I had gotten pregnant naturally or with IUI, I wouldn’t have that information.  Trying to decide if I go all in and pay the extra $$ or do I just put in the best embryos I have and leave it up to a higher power?? I am not interested in knowing sex of the embryos and would request to not find out prior to implantation.  Does anyone have any information that swayed them one way or another?? How about losing embryos to the freezing and thawing process?? Any input is appreciated....

I would do the testing. The cold hard facts are that after 40 the majority of our eggs have chromosomal abnormalities. You don’t have the luxury of time. I know I would be heartbroken if I transferred an embryo only to lose it to an abnormality, but had the chance to avoid that. I lost one to T13 in April. We can’t really afford IVF and insurance doesn’t cover a dime so we are still just rolling the dice each cycle hoping for one good egg.

I am not for two reasons: I never get more than 1 embryo, so it’s not worth the money, and I have read numerous articles that say PGS is not perfect. So many embryos are labeled not normal, when it turned out another lab said it was normal.

I would do the testing. I just had stillbirth after 6 months of pregnancy. It turned out that my baby had down syndrome known as trisomy 21. Research says after 40 years old, abnormal embryo happens to be more than 50 %. At the age of 45, it is about 90% (almost 100%!). We won't have time to waste. So it is very helpful if we know the implanted embryo is viable to save our time and mostly emotion. Of course, screening is not 100% accurate and it is still not a perfect solution, I think I will not regret to do so even if we ended up no baby after all. It's just my personal opinion. :)

Out of 9 blastocyst I only had 2 normal girl embryos.  My RE said the pregnancy rate for pgs normal embryos is 60%.  Trust me when I say you will be saving time and heart ache if you do PGS.  BTW I’m 41 years old

I would. we got pregnant naturally a few years ago.  lost our baby at 34 w due to trisomy 18.  we can't afford IVF so we are having to take a chance it happens again :(

We are not testing. You can lose embryos through testing.. If you get pregnant naturally you take the risk. There is the harmony blood test which is done around 10 weeks to see if the baby has major chromosomal abnormalities. We will do that. My FS was 50/50 for genetic testing.
