Do you think period cramps are serious enough to miss work/school?

If they're so bad that you physically cannot go to work or school then yes. I used to get cramps so badly I'd throw up and moving made it way worse. I couldn't go to school like that so I stayed home. My mum tried to find a way to help me find a way to reduce the pain, but nothing helped. When I moved back to North America at 18 I immediately tried birth control (birth control was illegal unless you were married where I grew up) and that solved my issues. Now I go to school and work whenever I have my period. If my cramps are bad I can take an Advil. 
My opinion is that unless you physically can't leave the house then go to work/school. But, you should be trying to find a solution to this problem. Just continuing on missing work and school isn't ok. You can't take that much time off and expect your boss to be ok with it. If I skipped a week every month I wouldn't have gotten my degrees nor would I be keeping my job.

Mine typically aren’t but someone else’s pain is not what I am going through so I can’t say if theirs are bad enough to need to stay home.

I’ve never personally stayed home because my mom didn’t believe in that kind of crap, but if it’s so bad that no pain medications works, then yeah.

I get terrible cramps. There were times in high school where I would have to run out of the classroom to throw up. At that point I decided to stay home whenever my cramps were that bad. Now that I am in college, I can decide whether I absolutely need to stay home, or if I can bare it for a couple of hours. I don’t believe there is a universal answer for everyone. If you feel that you need to stay home, stay home.

i dont get super horrible cramps so i think it depends. i still go to work no matter how bad they get and ive had some very rough days. im pretty stubborn

they can most definitely get that bad. some women have cramps that are completely debilitating.
