Is it selfish???

Is it selfish to want to be a homemaker? I currently work right now and am applying for a second job, but I told my husband I would like to work on getting pay enough to support us so that maybe one day I can be a homemaker. It’s just what I’ve wanted since I was young, to be a housewife and hopefully stay at home mom.

I don't think it's sllfish too want to stay home. But, if it's something that doesn't really work for your family then it'd be selfish to become a SAHM. If it puts excess stress on your partner or they feel pushed into it then that's selfish. Basically, if this is something feasible for your family and doesn't damage your family (for example, puts you in a bad place financially) then it's 100% not selfish and may be the right choice for your family. But otherwise yes it'd be selfish to put your desires ahead of what is best for your family.

I think this is a great goal but having no financial independence is a dangerous position for a woman to put herself in. Maybe you could work toward having a little at home business? Just so you’re still making money on the side.

Your writing is a little confusing. Did you tell your husband you would like him to make more money to take care of y’all? I think that’s selfish. Way to put stress on your husband. It’s one thing if he was already making a decent amount and you discussed staying home...

I’m a SAHM and I love it.
It was definitely something we knew would be our first choice before we even got married, if this is totally new information to your husband you will need to give him lots of time to adjust his mindset. 
Be prepared to not live at your current lifestyle. If you have baby expenses you may not be able to afford things you do now. I do not go to a fancy hair salon, I do not dye my hair or get highlights, I spend a limited amount on beauty products, I do not get new clothes very often etc. 
Also, be prepared to ride the highs and lows with hubby and be supportive of him no matter what. Generally a man wants to provide plentifully for his family but it’s not that easy anymore. It has taken my husband almost 8 married years to find a job that meets our needs even though he has been to college, willing to work hard and applied to countless jobs over the years.

I just think it’s dangerous. 
My mum starting dating my dad when she was 19. He was always the breadwinner, she only worked part time as he made tonnes and she had to stay home and raise us kids.
She had no money. They divorced in 2010. Dad lost his job so it became difficult to receive financial support from him. We BARELY scrape by. She’s almost 50 with no savings, no super. She regrets not working before she had kids.
