Did I Miscarry or is my period early?

So I started spotting yesterday and now I'm bleeding actual blood but my period isn't supposed to come for another 9 days. I took 2 pregnancy tests yesterday and they were both negative but I had a strong feeling they were wrong. I'm on birth control and haven't missed a pill though. Could this be a miscarriage or is my period just early?
