If a child is witnessing/witnessed a physical altercation between their parents, do they have a right to step in (call the police, etc)?

I know it isn't a child's place to step in when their parents get into arguments,  but where is the line drawn?

If they’re scared for the safety of either/both parent(s) then yes. Absolutely they should call the police. Even if no one is arrested, once the cops show up they can at least stop the argument from getting worse

Absolutely. I’ve had to call the cops on my parents and brothers many times before when things got physical, and I’m the youngest in the family. The first time I had to I was 6 years old. It’s horrible for a child to go through. If a child is scared or feels unsafe due to their parents physically fighting, it is absolutely their place to be sure of their (and their parents’) safety by calling the police.

my older sister did any time it happened. it was at first just her making sure my younger sister and I were in a separate room from the fighting and then it went to her calling the police, and then when she was older, she would be the one pulling my parents off each other. My parents dont fight anymore, yes they have tiny arguments or whatever, but they haven't had a huge fight like when we were younger in years

It depends if the get physical and the child or the parents get several hurt then you can call the police
