How do you know!?

Question

I see a lot of you ladies posting about how dilated you are but my midwife hasn't say anything to me. When do you usually find out this? I'm having my 38week appointment later today.

With the midwife model of care they shouldn't check you unless you explicitly ask. The checking is just another route and risk for infection and truly doesn't tell you anything- for some women it's encouraging to hear but many, many women can walk around 4cm dilated for a month and nothing happen...

My doctor started checking for dilation at 36 weeks.. Your midwife should definitely be checking you for dilation and effacement, especially since you're 38 weeks...

I agree my dr started at 36weeks & of course L&D will check you to if you end up there before expected

I am 38 weeks and I saw my midwife today.  They said they don't check before 38, and will only check if requested. I'm trying for a vbac and requested to be checked.
