Blood on hpt test

Ok so I have read from many people that on hpt tests that they can't tell the difference between blood or urine. That it's the hcg betas that causes a positive and its higher in your blood way before your urine. Has anyone tried this and it was right or gotten a positive and it was a negative when done at the dr office?
