Elective Induction Success -- Long!!
Hi all, I'm so excited to share my birth story. I'm so happy with how everything went. I chose to be electively induced at 39 weeks for a variety of reasons despite always wanting a natural unmedicated birth. Turns out it worked in favour of both my husband and I... he got me to birth in a hospital where he felt I would be safe and I got my unmedicated birth!
We showed up to the hospital at 6pm, Dr inserted cervidil strip by 6.30pm and said my cervix was very favourable (only 1/2cm thick, over 1 cm dilated, anterior and soft) and the CTG showed irregular tightenings that I could feel as mild cramps. Just after 9pm my waters broke spontaneously and the cervidal was removed. I used heat packs on my back and lower abdomen as well as using a labour TENS machine, I played music and moved around a lot (on a birth ball early on, then when it became hard to sit - walking and swaying). I did have a bit of a numpty for a ward midwife, my first and only cervical check was at 4am when I said i had the urge to push.... despite calling her multiple times regarding double peaking contractions, not feeling like I was getting a break, bloody show and building pressure in my groin.... by that stage I was fully dilated and effaced and baby was at +2 station! Luckily Dr lives close by as baby was born 30 min later! I roared her out and no tears!!
Unfortunately, my placenta wasn't quite ready to vacate the premises yet so I had to go to surgery for it to be removed but I got over an hour of skin to skin beforehand and got to see her weighed and measured before going to surgery. My little girl weighed in at 6lb 10oz and 51cm long! And has a conehead haha. My surgery went well and I'm feeling like wonderwoman! Baby breastfed like a dream too!
