3- It is PREVENTABLE: Protected sex and safe handling of needles or any sharp objects is CRUCIAL.  
There are medications that slow down the occurrence of complications and decrease the risk of transmission (an HIV-afflicted mother can give birth to an HIV-free baby) 
To clear some terminology: 
- HIV is short for Human Immunodeficiency Virus. 
- AIDS is short for Acquired ImmunoDeficiency Syndrome. Which is the end-stage of an HIV infection. 
What does that mean? 
- Not every person with HIV is afflicted with AIDS 
- a person can live with HIV for years before they reach the stage of AIDS, and medications can slow that progression

You don’t die from HIV. You can, however die from AIDS. HIV is what you get in the beginning. You can consider it the “dormant” stage of AIDS, or in other words, HIV developed into AIDS. A LOT of people go their entire life without even knowing that have HIV. HIV can still be transmitted though.
