Anyone else?

Been using birth control for almost 2 months. Two days ago i noticed brown discharge but it was very light on my pad and when i wiped there were hints of blood red. My period was supposed to be due like 2 weeks ago..should I consider the brown discharge with red my “period”? Mind you I had to put on a pad for a day because I was cramping and a significant amount came out but not enough to fill the pad. I had asked my mom if this was my period and she said yeah and that i shouldn’t worry. Is she right??
