Postpartum Anaphylaxis

Julianne

Hey ladies! Putting my story out there to see if anyone else has possibly experienced something similar. Side note, I’ve never had any allergies whatsoever, hardly even seasonal.

Yesterday I was at a family get together. I was heading out so I snagged a bite of a brownie which had walnuts in it apparently. My husband, my daughter, my pup and I went stopped at Dunkin donuts to start our trek back to MD from NJ. 10 min out I start having a tickle in my throat, that came with coughing and attempting to clear it. Then my cough started becoming more hoarse and more often. Soon after, I felt like my swallowing muscles weren’t working well and my swallowing was impossible. Then, my voice went out... and I mean like, completely gone. And after that, I started with these snoring inspiration and expirations. When my lips started tingling I knew it was time to pull over and figure something out. After 2 puffs of albuterol and 2 Benadryls, I started feeling better with my breathing, then the cough and tickle started to subside and by the hour mark my voice had come back and I was feeling basically normal. My doctor prescribed me an epipen and referred me to an allergist.

Has anyone else experienced something similar being postpartum?
