Dating Your Roommate

My roommate & I were in a similar place of not having dated in years and being totally content with it.

One night, I’m at the local bar and invite both roommates, but only J came. After a few hours I’m realizing I am making out with him every where — beach, couch, any surface really. He keeps bringing up our other roommate etc to be mindful of him.

4 months later, it’s been a rollercoaster (mostly in my head and heart), rooted from him telling me that dating me makes him happy but the ownership of labels (gf/bf) makes people change. I found myself compromising things I felt and wanted due to putting on a sweet face because I felt I still needed to convince him to make it official. Also, in order to not rock the boat in the household and trying to play “chill roommate” best I could. Those compromises would bubble up (like clockwork) the week after ending my period. I’d call it sabotage mode. I’ve never been so insecure and jealous. That being said, he’s been amazing, open to communication, taking me to state parks and music venues I’ve never been to..

I’m not sure what I’m getting at and I’m not sure where to go, just curious to hear from others who have dated their roommates. Prior to this, I’ve always been highly against it.
