Am I wrong ?

Question

So when I meant my boyfriend he had 3 grown pit bulls, I have never been much of a dog person but I never complained I just treated them like they were my own. We’ve lived together for almost 2 years now and I never really cared that they were always in our bedroom with us, slept in the same room as us but when it got closer to my due date we discussed that once I cleaned and disinfected the bedroom they would no longer be sleeping in the same room as we do at least for a couple weeks after she is born even though our daughter will have her own room across the hall she will most likely be sleeping in our room (keep in mind we spend most of our time in our bedroom and the dogs are always in our room as well) Now that I’m due tomorrow and they are no longer in our room he is giving me a hard time about it. Am I over reacting or wrong? Should it matter? I don’t think our dogs would do anything to harm the baby it’s more about the room staying sanitary for her and not tripping over 3 big ass dogs 24/7. PLEASE give me your opinion!!

You need to do what you are comfortable with, but I actually brought this up with my doctor and with my vet when I was pregnant and she recommended keeping the dogs on their regular routine and not introducing any new habits. It can confuse the dogs and make them anxious around the baby, they would realize that this new “rule” was created when the baby was introduced and would associate the baby to neglect. And it is important that your baby and dogs do not have any anxiety or a negative relationship. My daughter is always supervised around my two pit bulls, both whom are big and just love to roll in dirt, but she was never separated from them. My dogs love her. From birth they would lick her toes and sleep next to her and i have always been open about this behavior with her pediatrician; they reassured me that it is the best option and it can help build her immune system. It makes no sense to separate the baby from the dogs and then introduce him/her a month or two later- if anything, that would be a shock to the baby’s system and possibly cause allergies or reaction to the fur. I don’t think you’re overreacting, but I think you’re creating an environment that might cause negative reactions later on down the line by separating them. Whether it be the dogs come to resent the baby or the baby ends up being allergic. We never kept our dog from our son. We acted like everything was the same, just brought a new member of the pack home. We even brought our dog home new toys when we came home from the hospital so he wouldn’t feel left out. 10 months later and they’re best buds. They play together and snuggle together. I’d suggest reconsidering the way you’re going about it, but that’s just me.

As a responsible PARENT and DOG OWNER they would never be unsupervised, thus being safe.

no you are not overreacting! I would do the exact same thing! thats where you're most likely going to change / feed your child I dont think its ok for the dogs to be in there rubbing up against everything at least not for the first 2 months Im not saying keep them in a separate room at all times just not in your bed room where everything is sanitized... explain to him you just want the baby in the cleanest environment possible for a little while

Mind changed. That may happen for u or it

I get it. I wouldn't want to be trying to get to a crying baby while tripping over 3 dogs who might act a little worried and try to hover if baby is crying. also they might get into her toys that she could want to put into her mouth. I don't think they would hurt her whatsoever though like you said!

personally I have introduced my 6 month old to as many animals as possible (not too close and always supervised) him nana who we live with right now has a long haired weiner doggie and he loves him, there best friends and sometimes before we can catch it will pick each other in the mouth or face... yes I said eachother, my baby licks the dog sometimes and we have to pull hair out of his mouth, we haven't had any problems and we can't even tickle Knox in front of the dog because he tries to "attack" us (not really he barks and gently grabs our hands to pull us away)

I get both sides. I think your in the right to put baby's safety first. He's just having trouble adjusting. Let him give you a hard time, but stand your ground. He should back off as he gets used to it. I would have my pit sleep with us if I had it my way, but my hubby didn't even want her in the room, so she slept in the living room. I strongly believe that his feelings are more important that my dogs feelings and I'm much more happy making him feel comfortable. Now that I'm pregnant the dog has been sleeping directly under my side of the bed. He thinks it's cute that she's so protective of me so he lets her sleep there.

idk my boyfriebds dog cried when the baby cried for like the first week and she had to be around him. if it makes you more comfortable maybe just say your just rather then be in the room while your awake.
