Lies to Avoid Alcohol? Advice needed!

Question

So I’m 4 weeks 2 days today. Super excited and obviously not drinking. However, my husband and I are going away to the beach this weekend in a house with friends. He doesn’t want to tell them for 8 more weeks. 
We are both big drinkers, as are our friends. As we will all be staying together and drinking together how should I avoid? I was going to play the antibiotic card, but they’re all intelligent and will see through that. Then I thought maybe I could just pretend to drink which would bring less suspicion, but would be harder to pull off.
Any ideas?!? I want to go have fun with friends at the beach but not drink or give away the fact we’re pregnant!

I had this same problem when I stayed with my family for Memorial Day at 4 weeks. The first night we went out, I ordered the lowest alcohol beer and drank about half of it. (Studies show that you can safely have one glass of wine per week, and beer has less alcohol than wine).
Then I drank La Croix at home with a beer cozy around it. 
You can offer to buy/make a round for everyone, which will allow you to put whatever you want in yours (soda water/ juice). 
I find that if you start off the night by appearing to drink, as people get more drunk, they notice less what you’re doing.
Everyone kept asking, “can I get you another?” And I would just say “yeah, but in a second, let me finish this one first” and then I’d get up and get stuff for other people in a little bit.
I was laughing and having fun with my siblings and my own mother thought I was “drunk” so I guess I was successful! I was only 4 weeks along at the time and I just wanted it to be my secret for a little while.

I had the same issue last Friday! My husband and I had just found out I was 3W4D pregnant and we were having friends over for dinner and drinks... long story short I used the sinus infection w/antibiotic excuse. Although they initially gave me the side eye, I went on to tell them my history with sinus infections and new found allergies over the last couple years. IT WORKED! I’ll be using the same excuse at our family’s house for the 4th of July cookout!

I agree with the person who said if it looks like you have a drink in the beginning, as people get drunk they won’t even notice. You can even once in a while say “whoa where’d I put my drink?!” and walk away like you’re going to find it 🤣 One Thanksgiving my SIL showed up with a bottle of wine and when I offered her a glass she said “in a little bit” but it wasn’t until weeks later when she announced her pregnancy that I realized she never actually drank that day. She usually has a glass of wine in her hand!

If your drinking at a house, take a beer or a spiked seltzer, go to the bathroom, put out and fill with tap water. Repeat. But, going away with people is tough - you are expected to drink and never get a break! I wound up telling my friends we were trying and I was being careful in case I was. This was more info than I wanted to give, but it was the best way to not have to straight out say I was.

I’m glad other people are having this issue! I went to a pool party with friends the first day we found out...I just said I was on antibiotics but they didn’t believe me and just kept asking if I was pregnant all night which was super annoying!  I ended up telling my siblings pretty early because I knew they wouldn’t believe the antibiotics lie!  
I like the fake drinking of beer cans! Or bring a bottle of vodka and soda and lime...share the vodka with other people then they won’t notice you’re just drinking soda water.

They sell non alcoholic wine and champagne. Maybe you could put some in a couple different bottles and bring it with. That way, you’ll still appear to be drinking. Good luck!

I usually order a drink immediately, don’t drink it - and usually people don’t notice. When I had just found out (3W5D..!) I was out with friends and they called me on it - I denied it as it was way too soon and felt high risk, but I was so shocked that they would put me on the spot like that! So I would recommend having a sentence ready to deflect if someone does call you out. I’ll probably say “we’d love to be pregnant - when the time comes you’ll be first to know”. Hopefully that will work 🤞😄🤞
