When did you all start rice cereal? And why did you start or not do it at all?

We didn’t do cereal that much. Have you tried it? So gross! Lol plus I’ve read that rice has arsenic in it, so we didn’t want to expose our baby to too much of that! We gave our 4/5 month old other foods like fruits and veggies and slowly introduced new foods. I kinda wish I had waited til 6 months or even later because he wasn’t really interested or ready for solid foods that young.

3 or 4 weeks because his acid reflux was horrible and his pediatrician recommended it before jumping into medications

I never did rice cereal, but I did baby oatmeal starting a little after 4 months. I gave it to my daughter after mixing it with breastmilk in a bowl and serving it to her with a spoon. I wouldn’t recommend starting with the amount on the recipe on the side of the container. It’ll make WAY too much for your baby starting off.

I didn't use rice cereal or oatmeal. It doesn't offer much nutritional value and my daughter loves food so much she didn't need the little help transitioning to normal food. Our pedi said the current recommendation is to start baby puree at 6 months old and what we did. Now at almost 10 months old she can just eat whatever is off my plate even with no teeth 😂

I tried it when pediatrician said to and when he showed interest in what I was eating. Tried three different kinds every two weeks for awhile but he always got a rash on his face. Gave up on em around 8 months. Feed him bits of bread off my plate now and he doesn’t ever get a rash. Baby foods with grains mixed in gave him rashes too, weird.
I read somewhere that they don’t have the right enzymes in their bodies to break down cereal until they’re 1!

We started with rice cereal because there’s absolutely nothing to it and it helped the kids get used to the texture without being hard on the tummy. We never really used it as a meal just as a transition to puréed real food. After they were on real food we’d mix a little oatmeal in with whatever they were eating to get whatever consistency they preferred and fortify it a little bit.

I tried it at 3.5 months, but my son. didn't like it at all. It doesn't really do anything for your baby. We started baby foods at 4 months & that helped him stay full/sleep longer.

Started just giving him a bottle with a little scoop before bed at 2 months so he stayed fuller at night and slept longer
