It can also be uncomfortable if you haven’t angled it correctly too. The vagina isn’t straight up and down but often angled back toward your tailbone. 
If it fits correctly you should barely be able to feel it no matter your position.
It can help some women to put a leg up on a toilet or chair as it naturally positions you in an angle that’s better to insert.
Give it another go, take it slowly and you’ll be fine. If you find it’s still not comfortable, don’t panic either. Everyone has their preferences!
