Membrane Sweep: Pros and Cons

What are folks thoughts on the pros and cons of a membrane sweep or when to get one? I’m 39w1d today, and have an appointment this afternoon. I’m tempted to ask for one today, because I’m physically struggling, but do generally want to give baby the time they need. Husband is hesitant about it - specifically his concern is that the doc will accidentally break my water.

Update: well I saw a dif OB then usual and she just went ahead and did it as a matter of routine basically haha. I’m sure I could have said no but we went with it. Definitely a uncomfortable and a lot of pressure! We will see what happens because I’m not any further dilated this week and she talked a lot about induction.
