Are sacral dimples hereditary?

My son was born with a sacral dimple. I’m not sure if it’s hereditary or just something that happened? Any comments appreciated.

My son has one and my MIL says one of her children had one also. Not sure if this is coincidence or not.

I’m not sure I’ve heard yes and no. My daughter was born with a sacral dimple on her upper butt and some hair. I looked it up apparently it’s a sign of spina bifida. Her pediatrician took a look and said she’s fine it depends how deep the dimple is,  took her in for an ultrasound anyway because I scared myself to death reading about spina bifida
