Other pain relief before epidural?

I'm looking for other ways to relieve pain during labor other than going straight to epidural.

With my first I got an epidural pretty much right away. I was only like 2cm dilated, but my water was already broken and I was on pitocin so maybe that made things a little more painful. But since I got an epidural so early i feel like things went more slowly.

What are some other options before jumping to the highest thing? I looked into gas a little but it seems to make girls feel nauseated :/
