Thought provoking question?

I'm putting this in controversy corner because... Well honestly there's no other section for it haha. But I have been wondering, since landfills are such a big concern for many of us, have you ever wondered why they aren't burned to reduce waste? Obviously a lot of things can't be burned (flammables!) but the area I live in regulates and sorts waste and has it down to a science. So, if everywhere did the same thing and burned things that are safe to burn, wouldn't that help the problem? Sorry if I'm rambling, I was just thinking about it since I've seen a lot of comments on landfill waste lately.
