🖐 Actions to Help Care for the Ocean

Al

To go along with another’s post, here are some simple changes you make to your life to help care for the ocean long term:

☝️Ditch the disposables. The convenience you gain has a cost. Many of these “disposables” don’t disappear and eventually get into the ocean, posing a major hazard for marine life. Make the conscious decision to get and use your own reusable shopping bags, beverage cups and food containers.

✌️Keep your tires properly inflated. Over a billion gallons of gas are wasted per year on under-inflated tires and the fossil fuel consumption is affecting all of our lives globally. Throw a tire gauge in your glove compartment and save yourself some cash while trimming your carbon footprint.

🤟 Unplug your electronics or use a power strip. Even when you switch your device off, power continues to be drawn and can account for up to 75% of the power used in the average home.

🖖 Clean up your cleaning supplies. If you wash it down the drain, it’s getting into the ocean eventually. Ditch the store-bought products. There are so many household chores can be done with simple, non-toxic ingredients like vinegar, baking soda, or lemon juice. (Shout out to the group recently made here in this app by someone for holistic cleaning hacks.)

✋ Be a picky eater. There won’t always be plenty of fish in the sea! Many fish have disappeared with all the heavy fishing being done. Monterey Bay Aquarium Seafood Watch offers state-specific guides for sustainable seafood on their website.

High-five to those who’ve read this far. Please feel free to comment as other actions people take to help our oceans or earth. 🌎🌍🌏
