Pumping?

Question

If I were to have my boyfriend bottle feed the baby breast milk at night do I still get up to pump? I’m so new to this and kind of confused. If I’m breastfeeding until he’s a year old and should be pumping if he’s not eating would I ever get to sleep through the night? So lost here 😣

I pumped overnight for the first 3 months because that’s when your supply gets well established. After 3 months, I slept when baby slept.

I haven’t slept through the night in 17 months 😂😩😴... and he only nurses before bedtime now. Ok, that may be a bit of an exaggeration... but honestly, I could count on my hands the number of times my son has slept more than 6 hours at once. Don’t let me scare you though.. apparently my son and I are both terrible sleepers.

My husband gives baby one bottle a day. I usually pump just after baby’s first morning feeding. I keep that in the fridge for him to give to baby later. Sometimes I pump again before bed if I didn’t get enough in the morning. But yes, basically whenever baby takes a bottle you need to replace that feeding with a pumping session to keep your supply up. But for me, it doesn’t necessarily have to be at the same time.

Yes you should be pumping if baby is eating from a bottle. I find it much easier to just breastfeed at night versus if I pumped. If baby sleeps through the night (after your supply is established), you don’t necessarily have to get up to pump. Sometimes I don’t, but sometimes I wake up with really painful boobs so I either wake up my son if it’s close to when he would normally get up or pump if I’ve still got a few hours.
