Depends where you are from.. On Australian roads when you park the drivers seat door and rear passenger door always open up into oncoming traffic. So safest for us here is the passenger rear side as it will always be in a sidewalk or not in direct line of incoming traffic if that makes sense?

If the middle back rocks too much, behind the driver is the next safest place. Getting t-boned is most likely to happen when turning left which means the passenger side is more likely to be hit straight on. For side impact, drivers instinctually protect the driver side.

Some vehicles like mine do not have latch anchors in the middle backseat so in that car the passenger side back is the safest

The middle of the backseat is shown to be the safest as long as you can get a really secure fit! It doesn't matter whether you use latch system or just the shoulder strap, they're equally safe. Just make sure it doesn't move more than an inch left/right and up/down.

We have ours installed in the middle backseat because a local car seat specialist told us it would be away from the airbags there (we have a Volkswagen jetta).

It's important to follow the car manufacturer's recommendations. My car doesn't have anchors in the middle and they recommend passenger side as to not impede on driver's comfort (which can cause a safety issue). I drive a compact car.

Everyone I know puts the car seat behind passengers seat Bc you can see baby's face when driving and its a lot easier to get baby out that the middle seat

Mine is behind drivers seat cuz hubby usually drives so I can see baby. And it's snug in there my hubby installed it before going on deployment just in case

Some vehicles have hooks for the sides! I drive a Mazda CX-5, and it gives you spots to secure the base. We found this out when we tried to hook it in the middle and it was only equipped to do the sides!
