My boyfriend and I have been talking a lot about engagement lately and tonight he says he’s really really nervous to ask my mom and stepdad for their blessing to marry me.

Hes afraid they’re going to say “it’s too soon.” Or “we’ll see” or “not until you both have better jobs.” I’m 23 (almost 24) and he’s almost 29. We’ve been together 6 months, and we may get engaged within the next few months.

We both work at a FedEx warehouse. I unload trucks and he works at the front desk doing an array of tasks. We’re looking for better jobs because we both make chump change right now.

The next question is, should he ask my stepdad first (since people usually ask the girl’s father first) or my mom first? My biological dad passed away when I was 12, so we were wondering who he should talk to first. My stepdad is really cool and will be thrilled. My mom loves him to death too, but I’m scared shes gonna say “it’s too soon” or something like that or give him a hard time. I don’t think she would though because he’s literally treated me like a queen since the day we met and he’s been nothing but loving and respectful to my family. He’s always at our house and he literally fits right in. So there isn’t any issue as far as any of that goes.
