CASA volunteering?

Does anyone on here volunteer with CASA? I have always wanted to do it, and my local chapter is starting volunteer training in about two weeks. I’m just nervous about the time commitment because I work 30 hours a week and have a 7 month old. I’m not sure if now is the right time. Anybody have any experience?

I used to work for CASA as an intern in college. I did a lot of the grunt work though and the other girl that was an intern got sworn in by the judge to be an advocate where as they wouldn’t let me but I did get to go to court for the hearings. 
Basically, you’re an advocate for the child and the voice for that child. You will get to know them and hear/learn their life to help decide where they are better off living.

Training was a big time commitment. The tricky part for me when I got a case was getting time off from work to go to court—my case was called to court several times, and I ran out of personal days. It’s an important job, and they were super understaffed where I live. Good luck!

Yep! I volunteer in South Carolina. 
Training was kind of a beast - 3 hours every Saturday for 6 weeks. That was rough. 
And when you get a case assignment, it’s a lot of work in the beginning and then it evens out. I typically do a home visit with the child, and the parents, and make phone calls and review documentation, and prepare a report, and go to court all within about 5 days. After that first court date, you just see the child once a month (whenever is convenient for you) and then there are court dates every few months.
So it’s not a HUGE time commitment for me, but you would have to have a job that will let you be flexible so you can make those court appearances.
For me, it’s a bigger emotional commitment than a time commitment. Prepare to have your heart broken. It’s very rewarding but also very taxing.
